Client: Tingletree Marketing

Website: http://www.tingletree.co.uk

Project type: Web Site

Tingletree are one of our clients and partners.

We were elated when we were asked to give their site a once over.

When our excitement subsided (we really do get a buzz from doing this!) we sat down and looked at the brief.

What was needed was a simple, clean, neat website with content management capabilities, a blog and room for feature expansion as time and budget permit.

Tingletree gave me that 'I know, it's asking a lot' look. I gave them my 'No problem, we'll work it out' (We can always work with a problem to provide a solution).

So what we did was grabbed the latest version of SilverStripe [Fantastic open source CMS framework, and it's FREE], found an 'almost there' theme from those under the creative commons license [essentially FREE], did a logo [for a small fee], edited the css and templates [I did charge for this bit], installed and configured it all and gave Tingletree the login so they could get right to work.

I think you'll agree that, given little time and a modest budget, the site looks great.

The hard work of SilverStripe and its contributors are the real heroes here, but I like to think it was good work getting it together to provide a great cost effective solution for a client.

So how does it get to be free?

Without spending too much time talking about something other than a really nice web site, we like to use open source applications.

These are not sub-standard or lacking in features. They are mature, well written, well maintained, expandable solutions that can serve as the core mechanism for a content management system or e-commerce site.

They are easy (certainly at the basic level as we have used SilverStripe for this project) to install, setup and skin, using just CSS and templates, but a modest level of skill and understanding of css, html and website can certainly help.

We never charge for the open source software that we use. We only charge for the work we do to install, setup, design and develop on top of the core application.

So, if you want a really quick, easy, no-fuss website, why not have a go. If you want a really quick, easy, no-fuss website at a modest cost, get in touch. You'd be suprised what can be achieved on a modest budget.
